I find this kind of hilarious. Back then, you all kept going on about something like eternal love, saying you'd be willing to wait 8 years for that. And now? Not even a year into the game, and some of you have lost interest just because the sprites changed styles already?

And one thing, have you ever stopped to think about why Amicus et al. look different from Scipio’s perspective compared to the human’s? Whether the Parent affecting the human’s or Scipio’s cognition? Or both?

The tags include psychological horror there, so I’d say this extent of speculation is well reason.

Adastra Spoilers Below

That's what I was thinking. It makes perfect sense why Amicus would appear "stiff" and "intimidating" when in the presence of anyone but his human lover (especially the Khemians); not only is he the emperor of an intergalactic empire but he's also the the face of the weakest sibling in the Galaxias. It's been 3 years since the events of Adastra and after the horrors Amicus witnessed (his imprisonment, attempted assassination on his brother, Cato's coup, the riots, death of Marco and Alexios's infiltration in the royal family) I find it completely reasonable to assume that he's matured since then now that he's taken on the responsibility of being the progressive emperor to an otherwise traditionalist empire. But that's just my 2 cents.

this vn is great and all, but i still can't hide my disappointment with the new sprites, it's eating me while i go through the story, i would've had drew them myself if i had the chance. i'm not saying it's bad it's just so different from what we're used to, for example amicus's sprite in interea was so great, i wish if they went with it.

I LOVED the new update! Loved Aya and (finally) getting to see Khemia, and I'm looking forward to the next update

Story, getting better and the changes too?

I wonder if adastra & interea are gettin' some juicy one's if you know what I mean.

The artist ended the visual identity created in Adastra and Interea, for the simple reason he wanted to.

This sounds ridiculous, the visual novel is not his entirely personal work for this decision to be ok, he is just the artist paid for it, now the art has just turned into a generic Bara, and some CGs were horrible, if I hadn't seen the original I wouldn't even have understood what that was supposed to be.

I had loved the visual upgrade that Khemia had in relation to Adastra, after what happened with Smoke Room in the final stretch of the project, + this abrupt change in Khemia's look, without a decent explanation other than "I'm sad to draw in this style, so I'm going to change it!" made me very unhappy with Echo Project in general, years waiting for updates for something that simply made me completely lose interest in the project. And no, it's not just that Bara has become generic, Adastra's cartoon art can also be considered generic, but it took two games to create an artistic style for such a sudden change to be made.

But it took two games to create an artistic style for such a sudden change to be made. If it were a completely new visual novel with no connection to Adastra, I wouldn't have any problem with the look, but they simply changed the entire look of the universe that I was attached to. Almost everything, the blatantly ugly scenarios remain, what a shame. They changed what was good to something bad, and what could be improved remains the same ugly.

In the end, that's my opinion.  T:

"I'm sad to draw in this style, so I'm going to change it!" Is a very shitty and minimizing way to summarize what Haps said, downplays what he's been dealing with and it makes you look like an insensitive asshole.

(+1)(-2)

I would say it's a pretty accurate summary, since he didn't even want to bother talking about it in more depth, and that's okay, it's his privacy. Unfortunately, the damage to the work has already been done for me and some others, I'm even sad that most people didn't care much about this change, but I doubt they would go back on it even if it had more repercussions. Simply regrettable and disappointing, I literally feel betrayed by the time I waited in the dark to receive this. 🐤

there is definetly a issue with itchio's update feed

the last two updates of Glory Hounds didn't show up on my feed and neither did this update right now

(+1)

I literally screamed when I saw the update just now! Omg I know what I'm doing tomorrow! Thank you soooooo much for continuing this!

lol same, I just straight up read it all in 4 hours 😭

(+7)(-4)

I'm really loving the redesigns. I honestly think a lot of the criticisms surrounding the new sprites just boils down to personal preference for most people. They're not the traditional chibi designs from Adastra and previous builds which I'm sure throws a lot of people off. But overall I think they're a huge improvement.

(+2)

Had to make an account but the delay is because of the artist or idk if its the developer OR creator? I heard Haps is going on a break for mental health reasons

(+2)

Devs in discord have said that they're finishing QA stuff and that the public build should be out very soon

(+2)(-3)

maybe it was canceled. i did hear some hate going around about the different art style maybe it put them off it TwT

(+2)

What? No . . . I'm not a fan of it either, but I'm so invested with the story.

(+1)

I like both was just saying what I heard

I doubt they would cancel it

yeah, they obviously wouldn't, it's just a matter of time :)

No, it's not canceled from what I can tell. Currently, build 3 for the patreons was released 14 days ago, and if it was actually cancelled I would expect more communication on something that big for a project.

Though it is worrying that it's been a while with no updates. Moreover, the only mention for public release was in a now-deleted public Patreon post around 18 days ago on May 5.

It said "The public version of the third build will be released sometime in the first half of this month" (I was excited and screenshotted it), which is (obviously) now way past the first half. But seeing that it's deleted, my best guess now would be around June 8, assuming they want to wait a whole month after the Patreon release.

(+7)

Okay, seriously, what's the hold-up?

It's been 2 months since build 2 has been out on Patreon, and almost a week since they released build 3

(+1)

yeah. Not only were we  told it’d be released (in a now deleted Patreon post) it’d be released around now, but it’s not here and there’s been no communication about it.
id just like a solid answer about if we’re going to be getting it or not..

(+4)

Part 2/chapter 2 (however you want to refer to it) should be coming out soon.  Saw something on their patron

(+1)

Mhmm, it did.

However, I can't seem to find the post anymore and I think it was deleted. So let's just hope it's still true, which would be in a few days if they stick to the "first half of this month" thing.

(+1)

maybe not, I bet it'll be at the end of this month, but I do hope I'm wrong lol

(+1)

Very much enjoying the story so far and seeing a continuation from Adastra's politics. A bit of a side tangent, but Scipio is a lovely character (and so damn adorable too...) and I am very excited to see how he develops as a protagonist.

(+3)

My general review of Khemia:

  1. It's not bad overall, I still have hopes for the plot to be good as I know this world is diverse enough to contrast with alot of other concepts and I'm sure we're all wondering how this plot is going to play out
  2. I'm curious to see if Marco's mission will affect our characters and the world itself, I'd really like to see the connection with Adastra and Khemia as a continuation of our favourite love couple, that's all I want really 😭
  3. I'm not a huge fan of the character redesigns, Amicus looks like a stiff animatronic which is very eerie to me as only his facial expressions moves but not anything else, it doesn't give off the same charismatic Amicus I know from Adastra which is a bit of a bummer, to put it lightly, I hope there's more movement for that authentic experience that I found in Adastra

Everything else is pretty beautiful I must say, quite the advancement for the last 2 games but it's falling a little, I still have hopes though from the future updates we're going to get 🙏

Listen to our pleads and feed us well

(+4)

They're really taking their time with this one, aren't they?

(+4)

Fr,  but I just know that it'll pop out of nowhere when we least expect it, and that excites me lol, let's just have hope and patience 🙏

I was hoping it'd be out last month, but my idea is  maybe this month since Glory Hounds released a new chapter last month

(+4)(-1)

I hope what we have now isn't Amicus's final look, he looks... stiff, almost two-dimensional, facing forwards like that, but Brunis's new design looks absolutely fantastic, and the new CGs are just as incredible as the old ones. The energy in Neferu's poses is great, too.

I really hope I don't come across as negative - I have nothing but faith in everyone involved in the project, and I'm really excited for what comes next!

(+1)

I agree, while I'm not a fan of the redsigns, they won't hinder me

I will say Amicus is a bit stiff, but nonetheless is an amazing drawing of him!! And I agree, I did recently look back at some of the CGs that got redeisgned and like ofmg its so much better.

like the difference between the old and new CG for the reflection one is like night and day like my god. (I love both, but it was a massive improvement)

(+1)

Yeah!

I'm wondering if I should play intera or this first any suggestions

Nvm I finally did my research

(+2)

can't wait for chapter two!

(+1)

fr, I keep checking this page daily lol

I think that it should be coming out soon since the Patreons get a build a month before a public release. The Patreon build came out March 11, so I suspect April 20 for the public release (both for the 4/20 joke and that's a full 31 days after Patreon Release).

I'm waiting for that email that there was a Khemia update!

(+1)

March 11 to April 20 is 41 days not 31

oops

(+1)

nvm that, I'm just happy they are continuing the story, and finally updating interea and khemia :D

(+3)(-1)

*sits waiting, twiddling my thumbs until we finally get to land on Khemai*

(+2)

IT IS SO MUCH FUN

Like seriously. I was taken a bit aback at the first announcement about new updates. New sprites and some CGs felt a bit uncanny valley to me (default Amicus), but after some time it felt nice and HAPS certainly did an amazing rework of characters.

I'm so invested in the narrative :^) New characters, politics and dynamics are so interesting to read. Not going to say anything about patreon-only content atm, but my god HOW INTERESTING IT IS! I NEED MORE!

I think Howly is really good at depicting eery horrors and stuff and there are certainly new themes to be explored here with Skippy, but worldbuilding. - greatest part for me. Sibling's history and shenanigans are so greatly depicted. Finding out new details about state of adastra, khemian technology and its superiority (how?) is fun.

Also, Meera (ig Other) talked about hooman, but is it suggesting that canon ending of Adastra is where Marco didn't submit to parents all willingly? oh boy, if there to be Adastra 2 after 8 years it is to be a rollercoaster..

Great stuff overall, pls continue! Hope this year for echo project would be a bliss :)

p.s. god i luv anthemics. khemian album is my fav of his works

(+2)

Just finished reading Adastra. VERY good work, never thought I'd wanna read a political novel. My only nitpicks (aside from a few errors I was thankfully able to pass over) are that I wish there was an option to skip sex scenes—I was so interested in the story, I felt like they got in the way, the story is that good!—and, most importantly, I feel there shoulda been more leadup to the romance. I get there were time skips, but I still wish we saw more connection between the two. (I also felt like the human was a liiiittle bland, but his cleverness made up for that.)

So for this, I'm looking forward to seeing more relationship development. Chemistry, that's what I'm looking for! And Scipio off the bat looks to be full of character. That first image tells me that he is a complete and utter dork, and I am gonna love this.

Good luck, Echo Project!!

(1 edit) (+2)

Absolutely love it so far!! Can't wait to see more ^^ And give us more Brumiiiiis!!

(+1)

The rewrite is going in such an amazing direction—I'm so damn impressed, seriously. Scipio is sucha fun little weirdo, and Virginia's side plot is fantastic! So much tension! Aya is also the perfect character type to slot in to the group and I love her???? Uhghghgg. I'm obsessed.

Wait, where are you finding this side plot? And did you see more of Aya aside from the ship?

(1 edit)

2nd build has all that, its on their patreon atm

(1 edit)

how can i play the game idk were to go or what to do i have been looking for were to play and what do i do with the download

(+1)

you have to click on the download, right click, and extract files, once you do that it will open another window, it will give you multiple archives and one of them will have an icon of neferu, double click on it and that'd be enough to open the game

(3 edits)

do you have Instagram or sum so you can help me cause im kinda confused sorry im really that good with stuff like this i really love the first one have been wanting to play this one for a while

(+1)

I am relieved to admit that after the long hiatus, we were presented with a wonderfully polished version of what we had all those years ago, both narrative-wise and artistically. This rework reminded me of why echo project is the phenomenon it is within its genre, and I feel the need to express why to all those who, rightfully, still have their doubts.

When reading this (reformed) first chapter, we encountered a continuation that has managed to build upon the already established intrigue, and deliver an incredibly promising foundation to answer all that which Adastra left intentionally vague.
I can confidently affirm that this point is the most popular, i have still not heard complaints about the writing, even considering the shift in main character and love interest!

Unfortunately, the artistic aspect of this sequel has thrown off some of the established fanbase, and it has been expressed.

Personally, I feel that this iteration is the best, and that Haps has not failed to deliver once again after so many reworks. It's a shame to see Amicus's slight chub go, but it is only logical considering the context he's in, and the attention to said detail is greatly appreciated. It is a reflection of the new expectations that rest upon Amicus represented on his physique, that now matches the encyclopedic look of an emperor; fit and confident.
Of course, all other sprites are done with the same expertise and personality. Brunis's being, in my opinion, one of the most remarkable ones.
If i had to nitpick one aspect of the art, I would say that some drawn backgrounds don't exactly enthusiasm me, but at least it's better to see than a stock image with a filter thrown over it.

The rough reception of the new art has obvious reasons: people just get used to what they had, and there's little one can do to avoid complaints when a re-imagining is done. I wish everyone appreciated the effort to polish the sprites so much, but "Oh well."

The future of Khemia is finally looking bright again, and i can only wish that the planets don't align to throw another stone to the development of this much anticipated sequel. There is still love for Adastra, and there are still things left to say. This was never over.

(+2)(-12)

I'm sorry i know this is a subjective thing but why do the characters keep getting uglier with each game?

(+1)

Wait a second, I think I have the old version. Is this the new one? It's been like sooo long since I've played it that I don't remember if I got the update or not.

It should be the Khemia 0.1 update

Ah, ok. I'll get it then.

I really love the story and where you guys are taking this. It’s really good and getting more Adastra content is the best. I love that you guys can make such gripping stories based off of one we already know full and well, and still get us so into it despite not all of the characters being there.

With that said, tho, the sudden change to the sprites are, I think what a lot of people agree with, quite disconcerting. The art style change itself isn’t too bad and takes getting used to, but some of the creative decisions are almost off base. The biggest being Amicus and his belly. From a story standpoint of him losing weight, sure, but the Echo team and Haps himself are no stranger to bigger furs being represented and drawn. We live in a world where chubbiness is demonized and taking Amicus’s belly away doesn’t really help with the lack of representation. Not sure whose decision it was, but it definitely feels very jarring when this character has been drawn fatter in the past, and the writing itself acknowledges that. This story is less of a “dating” VN so it’s more excusable, but we still want the belly!

Truly, despite some of the changes, I can’t wait to see more and everything you guys do with this and other projects like Interea.
