Sooo I kept postponing this one because I was wondering if it was gonna live to the hype and I didn't want to dissapoint myself. Excelent world building! I spoiled myself a little over the years (Mostly Leo's route) but it was nothing like I expected, it was really great, I read all routes in two days haha
I believe that the worldbuilding (of ECHO )in Lovecraftian horror is not as rigorous as that of science fiction or fantasy. What it emphasizes is more of a philosophical perspective.
Lovecraftian horror is fundamentally about “information asymmetry.” If you explain the mechanisms behind the unknown too rigorously, you may actually diminish the sense of horror.
Yes! It feels refreshing when they don't feel the need to explain everything, there isn't enough time to explore the world of echo to the fullest, but it feels bigger because of it.
I only played through Jenna's ending; after that, I couldn't bring myself to keep going, haha.
But I think it's really just a matter of imagining it, since the game doesn't give us anything very concrete. Still, I like to imagine what might have happened...
I just recently streamed the entirety of Echo (all endings) plus Arches. In my 8 and a half years as a streamer, I've never cried so hard on stream. Specifically at Arches. This series has become my favourite read so far.
The Echo series gets a well deserved 10/10 from me
I like this game! The characters are very complex, and their struggles are portrayed harshly and intensely, making it a very unnerving read at times. Some of those struggles are really relatable to me it's scary! how did they do that?
Speaking of scary, I think the game handled psychological horror really well too. (That thing moving toward the center still gives me goosebumps.)
There's not much of the story i can get into without spoilers. So, let’s hand out some random awards:
Most Times Getting Caught With Pants Down Award: Chase
Least Amount of Work Done in a Route Award: Jenna's
“Let’s larp.” “No thanks.” Award: Carl
“Sure, You Can Put Mustard on It” Award: Leo
Iron Lotus (the song) Award: Flynn
“It’s Definitely Spelled Futon” Award: TJ
Biggest Mistake Award: Chase’s Goatee

when you finish all the ending you start to wonder what if it never happened and what was truly meant to happen

It's just a theory. A game theory.

WHERE
On Twitch. The Vods might be gone by now but I do have my reaction to Arches on TikTok. SkaylzTV on both platform
yeah same, this novel has been the most emotionally impactful piece of media for me, closely seconded by outer wilds. can't believe you streamed it.
